A major milestone in the renovation and expansion project of the The PrimeWest Health Runestone Community Center has been reached, with two of three phases now complete. The project’s third phase - adding a third arena to meet increased demand for on-ice and dry-floor events - depends upon funding from a combination of sources, including the State of Minnesota, City of Alexandria and the PrimeWest Health RCC Capital Campaign.
The PrimeWest Health Runestone Community Center has been Alexandria’s premier venue for on-ice activities and dry-floor events since 1978. The renovation and expansion project will benefit the entire community by maximizing opportunities for concerts, curling, figure skating, graduations, hockey, open skating, seminars, and trade shows.
The renovation and expansion project has been broken into three phases:
- Phase 1 renovated the existing main lobby area, including a new concession stand and expanded restrooms.
- Phase 2 expanded the main lobby and added space to the south end of the facility on the ice level, concourse level and mezzanine level. This included new team rooms, support space, meeting room, elevator and improved circulation.
- Phase 3 would add a third arena to meet increased demand for on-ice activities and dry-floor events. The timing and scope of this phase depends upon funding from a combination of sources, including the State of Minnesota, City of Alexandria and the PrimeWest Health RCC Capital Campaign.
Thanks to generous support from individuals and businesses – including naming rights partners PrimeWest Health, Hilltop Lumber, Bremer Bank, and Aagard – more than $4.1 million has been raised.
